There’s no question that Machu Picchu is a beaut

There’s no question that Machu Picchu is a beautiful location, but because approximately 5000 people visit each day, the experience is completely mediated and controlled by the staff of the site. One is pushed through at a fast pace, tickets are tiered so it’s not possible to stroll freely anywhere but one is restricted to a specific route in one direction only. There is absolutely no sense of authenticity in the experience. Agua Calientes, the gateway to Macchu Picchu is a tourist trap and most of the things that are sold there are manufactured in China. Thus should never be the reason one comes to Peru because there is so much that is wonderful & genuine here as my previous posts hopefully have demonstrated. #peru #perutravel

Joe and I are happy to announce that we completed an impossibly challenging five day trek to a remote Inca site Choquequirao in the Andes and survived! Here are some images from the archaeological site most notable among which are the singular llama stone mosaics on very steep terraces facing the precipitous descent into the Apurimac River Valley. #choquequirao #alpacaexpeditions #peru #perutravel

This is all in preparation for a five day four night camping hike to an isolated Inca site Choquequirao which we will be doing with Alpaca Expeditions next week.
